Local Celebrity and Recording Artists to perform Benefit Concert as Disaster Relief for Sumner County Tornado Victims Country music recording artists are joining forces with United Way of Sumner County to raise money for Sumner County tornado victims with a free benefit concert called “A Night of Healing” Monday, May 1 st at the Hendersonville High School gymnasium beginning at 7:00 pm.Ricky Skaggs, Lorrie Morgan, the Oak Ridge Boys, T.G, Sheppard, The Del McCoury Band, The Whites, Gary Allan, Connie Smith, Kelly Lang, Tommy Cash and Ralph Emery have all volunteered their time and talent to this important cause. Monetary donations will be accepted at the door for admission into the concert that will go directly to the disaster relief fund established by the United Way of Sumner County. As the name suggests, “A Night of Healing” is designed to not only raise money for those who have suffered tragic, personal loss, but to also help bring the community together to begin the healing process. Singer/songwriter and Hendersonville resident Kelly Lang came up with the plan for a benefit concert when trying to find a way to help her friends and neighbors. “I really felt a need to do something for all these people who have suffered so much, many of them people I know,” explains Lang. “So I started calling some of my friends who are in the business to see what they thought and it has just grown from there.” Some of the friends she talked with first included Lorrie Morgan, T.G. Sheppard and Duane Allen of The Oak Ridge Boys. “When Kelly called me saying ‘I want to do something - we have been so blessed while so many have suffered so much’, I said ‘ok let’s do it’, and then we just started brainstorming,” says Morgan. “This isn’t about us,” says Sheppard. “It’s about holding hands as a community to help those who need it most and to begin the healing that is needed by so many. We need to give until it hurts.” Allen, whose neighborhood received heavy damage from the tornado, was also eager to join in the effort. “We have so many people to thank who came so quickly and eagerly to help us and so many more to help who are on fixed incomes or who were physically hurt during the storm and can’t work,” explains Allen. “Give of yourself and you’ll be blessed for it.” Additional special guests are also expected to make appearances, giving the evening an “Opry” feel of fun and entertainment.
For further concert information, please contact the United Way of Sumner County at (615) 826-2977.

IMMEDIATE RELEASE LOCAL PERFORMANCE at 3rd & LINDSLEY Friday, December 16, 2005 at 7:00 PMYou are invited to a special anniversary celebration. Nashville, Tennessee – December 2005 – December 16 is a very significant anniversary for singer and song writer Kelly Lang; it was on December 16 of 2004 that she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Since that initial diagnosis, her life has had more twists and turns than a pretzel but instead of being defeated by an intense series of chemo and radiation treatments that followed, she says that “somewhere between the sharp piercing pang of the initial diagnosis and the end of chemo, she decided that cancer was, for her, the ultimate priority adjuster and a blessing as long as she didn't relinquish control of her life to it. She made up her mind to speak up, speak out and, hopefully, save a life. "Cancer forever alters your DNA" she has said, “but for the better. I'm deeper now. I have more sense to my being." Now, cancer free, she is busier than ever. She is working on a book that she hopes will honor others whose lives have been altered by this disease; the "warriors," as she calls them, "the ones who stand up to the dreaded cancer and defy it with such determination and dignity." Lang has been writing a lot of songs and now has stockpiled enough for a couple of new albums; she has also expanded her writing to include movie scores. She is considering a couple of interesting projects that would start after the new year but, for now, the bulk of her income is still generated from her art work so she is grateful to have a backlog of orders for her original oil paintings and spends nearly as much time painting as she does singing. A few months after her diagnosis, she told an interviewer, "I think I'm very lucky; truly blessed. This experience has been my funeral without having to die and it didn't allow me to have a pity party. People came out of the woodwork to let me know how much they cared and, quite frankly, I needed it. I needed to know I was appreciated and valued. This experience has reinforced my self worth and knowing what I know now, nothing scares me any more. I can handle anything now. I think this word, the big cancer word, is one of the worst things you can hear and to come through this whole thing with blessings; well, bring it on, I'm ready for anything."

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Nashville, Tennessee – October 10, 2005 – It is no accident that October is proving to be the busiest month of the year for Kelly Lang, after all, it is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. After being diagnosed with breast cancer in January of this year, Lang’s life has had more twists and turns than a pretzel but instead of being defeated by an intense series of chemo and radiation treatments that followed the diagnosis, in an interview for CountryStarsOnline.com she said that “somewhere between the sharp piercing pang of the initial diagnosis and the end of chemo, she decided that cancer was, for her, the ultimate priority adjuster and ‘a blessing’ ... as long as she didn't relinquish control of her life to it.” Lang decided that she wasn’t “going to go through all of this for nothing” and made up her mind to “speak up, speak out and, hopefully, save a life or at the very least prevent someone else from going through what [she] has had to endure.” She says that one of the biggest steps she took towards her own emotional recovery, was in June when she took part in the CMA Music Festival© and the IFCO Shindig© sans one of the several wigs she had been wearing since chemo claimed her hair. Although the purpose of going without a wig was to raise awareness, she now says that doing so proved to be the ultimate liberation for her. “Cancer forever alters your DNA" she said in her recent interview, “but for the better. I'm deeper now. I have more sense to my being. There is something about having to rely on inner beauty that lets you know what you are made of." Now, cancer free, she is more determined than ever to get on with her career. She has been keeping a journal since her diagnosis and is busily working on turning it into a book. The bulk of her income is still generated from art work so she is grateful to have a backlog of orders for her original oil paintings and she has also been writing songs and has several earmarked for her next album. Her debut album was well received and the first single released from the album, “Down on My Knees”, garnered her a number one position on the “Power Source Top 20” charts for Christian radio. Her first commercial video gave her the perfect opportunity to show off both her writing and vocal skills. It was a tribute to the late Conway Twitty titled “Goodbye Darlin.’” The late Velton Lang, Kelly’s father, was Twitty’s road manger for more than twenty-five years and Kelly grew up, literally, in the shadow of the legendary Twitty. “At the time, “she says, “I didn’t think it was a big deal, of course, but now I realize that it was a true blessing to have two such incredible role models in this business.”
It’s About Time
isn’t just the name of her album.

Nashville, Tennessee – 8 June 2005 – Being able to participate in the 2005 CMA Music Festival© is a significant milestone for Nashville singer/songwriter Kelly Lang. Being diagnosed with breast cancer at the end of last year initiated a roller coaster ride that hasn’t ended yet. In January, after it was discovered during her initial surgery that the cancer had spread to her lymph nodes, she began an intense series of chemotherapy and is still undergoing radiation treatments which have resulted in a visible loss of her hair. Kelly credits her daughters, her family, friends, and her longtime companion, T.G. Sheppard for inspiring her to turn this tragedy into something positive. She readily admits that there have been times over the past few months when she was so exhausted from the chemo and the debilitating routine that she wondered if the fight was worth it. But those moments came and quickly went and there was no denying the reality and, for her, the reality is that if she hadn’t ignored that lump, if she had gone to the doctor as soon as it became “uncomfortable” or if she had insisted on another mammogram to squelch the nagging voice in her head that told her “something was very wrong”, perhaps they would have caught the cancer before it spread to her lymph nodes. She decided that she wasn’t “going to go through all of this for nothing.” She made up her mind to “speak up, speak out and, hopefully, save a life or at the very least prevent someone else from going through what [she has] had to endure.” Kelly is modest about her own courage and is always quick to give credit to others. She wants to publicly thank everyone who took the time to write to her after her diagnosis was made public and let them know how much that deluge of support not only inspired her, but has maintained her. She has received cards, letters and e-mails from around the world and says, “The enormous outpouring was humbling and extremely inspirational. The letters were also empowering and with so many people rallying to support me, I felt obligated to fight harder. I became even more determined to survive.” Her goal is to educate and raise awareness. “Before people will listen to you,” says the beautiful and determined Lang “you have to get their attention.” To that end, Kelly has begun work on a book and it is that goal that has given her the fortitude to continue to perform and was also instrumental in her decision to participate in the 2005 CMA Music Festival©, "Country Music's Biggest Party”™. Kelly hopes to further raise awareness about breast cancer on Friday, June 10 when she performs at the International Fan Club Organization Shindig, Show and Party at the Ernest Tubb Texas Troubadour Theatre, and appears in the Destiny Row booth on the following day in the Wrangler® Fan Fair Exhibit Hall in the Downtown Nashville Convention Center, without wearing one of the several wigs that have been keeping her head, and self-esteem, protected over the last few months. Kelly has stated before that she finds the timing of her illness and the title of her album (It's About Time) to be ironic since she had put her music career on hold for several years and had just made the decision to resume it only months before her diagnosis. Another irony can be found in the first song to be released from It's About Time; “Down on my Knees,” which was written by Kelly well before her cancer diagnosis: “*I am a girl / a simple girl / living my life for this ole world/ I thought I was as free as a dove / but now I need help from above / I got a little lower / everyday / My skies of blue done turned to grey / so I had to go down / down on my knees / beggin’ you please / dear Lord for mercy.” *lyrics from “Down on my Knees” which became her first hit when it went to number one on the well-respected “Power Source Top 20” charts for Christian radio.

Nashville, TN (10 January 2005) – Singer/songwriter Kelly Lang, released a statement earlier today to confirm that she has been diagnosed with breast cancer. Lang underwent surgery last week where it was determined that the cancer had spread to her lymph nodes. Next week, she will begin several weeks of chemotherapy, followed by radiation treatments. Lang, who has been busily promoting her Destiny Row debut album, It's About Time, says she finds the timing of her illness to be ironic since she had put her music career on hold for several years and had just recently made the decision to resume it. She says the title of her album perfectly reflects her state of mind when it comes to her career and she is determined that her cancer diagnosis will not keep her from realizing her career goals. Lang has every reason to be optimistic about her career since she gave Destiny Row Records their first number one hit when her single “Down on my Knees” went to the top of the well-respected “Power Source Top 20” charts for Christian radio. As the single mother of two beautiful daughters, Lang says she finds immense strength, joy and inspiration in the role of motherhood. In addition to her music, she is also an accomplished artist. Her life, her paintings and her songs, are fashioned from a colorful palette of emotion and replicate the beauty, depth and passion of their creator. Lang has a strong and unwavering faith in God and is a firm believer “that everything happens for a reason.” She is absolutely determined to turn her illness from a negative to a positive. She hopes that by speaking out about her diagnosis, it will help raise awareness about this disease and, hopefully, save lives. Lang said that she is grateful for the outpouring of support she has already received. She wants her fans to know that, even though she can’t personally respond to every letter, she reads all the mail that comes to the e-mail address on her website, www.kellylang.net, and to her PO Box (Kelly Lang, 242 W. Main PMB 311, Hendersonville, TN 37075). You can also post messages to her forum at IFCO.org

Nashville, TN (25 October 2004) — It appears that the folks at Destiny Row Records have clearly discovered the value of encore performances when it comes to great songs. Following closely on the heels of the just released album Timeless, by the legendary T.G. Sheppard, the finishing touches are being put on the "Feels Like Home" video of Sheppard's label mate, Kelly Lang. Lang says that the beautiful Randy Newman song has been a favorite of hers from the first time she heard it and she was pleased to be able to include it on her debut album, It's About Time. Although this particular song has been recorded by several artists, and was a popular tune from the sound track of "How To Lose A Guy In Ten Days," Lang is the first to release it as a single and her handsome leading man in the video is former Phoenix Suns' basketball player, and aspiring country singer, Jim Farmer. The video will debut on GAC in mid November when the single is released to radio. In his review of Kelly Lang's version of "Feels Like Home," Robert K. Oermann said, "Kelly is to be commended for her courage in covering [this song], since its previous renditions include Linda Ronstadt’s, Bonnie Raitt’s and the one perhaps best known to country fans, a Trio II performance by Parton/Ronstadt/Harris. To her credit, she 'countryfies' it more than any of her illustrious predecessors did. Quote from Music Row Magazine -- October 2004" To launch the new video in Europe, Lang will be headlining at the International Country Festival in Bern, Switzerland on November 3rd. (Pünktlich zu Ihrer Europa Premiere wird ihre zweite Single "Feels Like Home" veröffentlicht.)

Immediate Release (Nashville) -- (September 2004) Eight months into their debut as a label, Destiny Row Records has scored the first #1 for their imprint with Kelly Lang's single, "Down On My Knees" currently topping at #1 on the Power Source Top 20 radio survey, according to Power Source Magazine's January issue. The single was pulled for release in the Christian market from Lang's forthcoming debut album, "It's About Time," set for April release. Another single, pulled from the upcoming project for mainstream country release -- "Goodbye Darlin'" is currently getting strong break-out radio airplay in a number of national markets. The video for "Goodbye Darlin'" has also recently brought major attention to the artist as it was chosen to stream at CMT's flagship website, CMT.com. Kelly Lang is a familiar name and face with music buyers who have embraced her singles from her forthcoming album. Her national television appearances on Star Search, Nashville Now and a number of other major programs have built a large fan base -- as strongly witnessed by the success of her debut singles. The artist herself is elated over the news that she has a chart topper on her hands. "'Down On My Knees' is actually a song I wrote for George Jones' gospel project", noted Kelly. "It arrived too late for the final cut of songs George and his producer picked, so it was a major disappointment to me at that point in time. Now to have the song become a number one hit for me in the Christian country market is a pretty awesome turn around! I'm thrilled and grateful to radio and to the listeners." Ron Cantrell, label president, is also grateful for the early success Destiny Row has encountered as a new label in an uncertain market. "We have a vision for presenting fresh new music that will reach the current marketplace of radio listeners and music buyers -- a segment of people that for too long have had limitations placed upon their choices. Kelly Lang's success with "Down on Your Knees" really underscores that Destiny Row as a label, is on the right track." |
